Every AI-device roadmap in Europe got a little less certain this week. Parliament voted to amend the AI Act, including timelines. If you build under MDR and the AI Act at once, this issue is for you.

Oliver Patel announced the European Parliament's vote to amend the EU AI Act, along with the proposed changes to implementation timelines and compliance requirements. For MedTech teams, the open question is how amended timelines interact with MDR/IVDR obligations already in motion.
AI-enabled devices sit under both frameworks at once, and a change to one side of that overlap changes the planning assumptions on the other. For teams that built roadmaps around the original AI Act schedule, the amendments mean revisiting which obligations land when, and how they line up against device transition work already underway.
MedTech Leading Voice presents a Friday in Focus session with Taylor Dieringer, Sr. Staff Quality Engineer in Risk Management at iRhythm Technologies, on Friday, June 26 at 11:00 AM ET.
Most risk files pass every audit and look finished on paper, then a vague complaint comes in and the file gives the investigator nothing to act on. This interactive session is about why that happens and the one change that fixes it: anchoring the risk file by harm instead of by sequence of events. You will play the complaint investigator, watch a room disagree about the same complaint, and leave able to explain risk to anyone in your building in two sentences.

Data, AI, pharmacovigilance, and lifecycle oversight are now baseline regulatory expectations. This week the EMA, Swissmedic, SAHPRA, and the WHO advanced digital submissions and structured data, the MHRA, EMA, and ENISA pushed AI oversight, SBOM, and Cyber Resilience Act readiness, and Team-NB sharpened scrutiny of clinical evidence and legacy-device transitions.
Last Friday, Shannon Clark, founder of Haven Safe and former CEO of Userwise, joined MLVx in Focus to talk through what happens when MedTech skills get applied to a problem outside MedTech. Clark built Userwise into the largest independently owned human factors consultancy in the U.S. device space and sold it in 2022. What came next was homelessness prevention.
